Aliens: Colonial Marines, slated for release tomorrow (Feb. 12, 2013), has been hit with fresh reviews from the gaming press. Most of them largely negative.

This is a massive blow to fans of the Aliens franchise and fans of Gearbox. Gearbox, and Randy Pitchford often touted Colonial Marines to deliver a very authentic and promising Aliens’ experience so it’s disappointing to see the end product be reviewed rather poorly.

This also puts the state of Gearbox in a dire situation mainly due to the fact they haven’t involved with the development of other critically acclaimed games, sans Borderlands franchise.

The review are:

Games TM – 4/10
GameAsylum
PS3Gen.fr – 5/10

Even Robert Florance wasn’t afraid to take a jab at the game.

A result of these negative reviews might also be due to the fact that Gearbox split the development with TimeGate studios – Gearbox only handled the multiplayer portion. TimeGate studios are a solid development house however they haven’t produced a game that set reviewers on fire.

Coupled with the hyped behind Colonial Marines and the Gearbox name, expectations were beyond what they could deliver.

Our review for Aliens: Colonial Marines will go up next week, stay tuned for our thoughts on the game.
