BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) has nominated Call of Duty:Black Ops 2 for the Game Innovation award.

BAFTA is highly considered to be the ‘Oscars’ for the video games and they have proven that by giving awards to truly deserving video games. If there is any video game award show that knows what its talking about, it’s BAFTA.

Their decision to nominate Call of Duty:Black Ops 2 doesn’t bode well with everybody, especially the group of people who despise the game due to it’s yearly sequel approach and the general lack of innovation it carries between each sequel.

I am not campaigning for Black Ops 2 to win the award – it’s just something that stood out to me on the list and here are my thoughts towards why it was nominated.

Call of Duty:Black Ops 2 however ditched that trend and did some very unique things with the way it handles it’s multiplayer component and singleplayer narrative. While still largely sticking to it’s roots, Treyarch pushed the Call of Duty brand to the future and added branching story lines to the campaign mode. Something that isn’t seen in straight shooters. In the multiplayer side of things, Treyarch added the ability to live steam your matches directly to Twitch.TV which is something that has never been done before in a console game.

Most members of reddit believe differently – Call of Duty is still and always going to be the same game in their minds.

Comments such as;

They are nominated for first minor change in their game engine for years.
For call of duty series it was breakthrough.

are used to discredit the game.

Instead of the gaming community shunning a game for trying to be innovative they should try to welcome it. Even if it is the Anti-Christ which goes by the name of Call of Duty.
