There is a code in the latest SimCity game, the one being marked for it’s number of issues, which force the shutdown of the game. If SimCity detects that a user is offline, it beings a 20 minute countdown. If you are not able to get online before that, it forces it self to shut down.

EA forced an always online mode into a game that originally never needed it to run it. SimCity is under a lot of scrutiny by fans of the series and other gamers alike due to it’s unneeded online DRM and EA’s poor excuse to utilize it. The game also fails to live up to it’s predecessors because it removes many of the features they had.
